Recent talks (2009) of raising the age of entitlement for NZ Superannuation will spell disaster for youth employment in New Zealand, the National Government raised the age from 60yrs to 65yrs during their stint in power during the 1990s.
The national Govt should be encouraging elderly people to quit the workforce to free up needed jobs for our displaced youth by reducing the age to 60yrs, also any worker over 60yrs who chooses to carry on working should not be granted NZ Super until they stop working.
It shames me to see our youth "out of control" and heading into crime, drugs and gangs, well thats what happens when youngsters have no work and no money!.
My message to the National party is this:"Forget about the baby boomers coming to the end of their working lives, pay them NZ Super at 60yrs, and put 100% of your efforts on youth employment if you want to stop the burgeoning crime rate and save a lost generation for which we will all pay dearly for many years to come." If we can eliminate the dole queue we can afford to pay the superannuation, its as simple as that.
Most menial workers who have slogged it out in the workforce since the 1960s are either sick or injured in some way, therefor a retirement pension at 60yrs will take some burden off sickness and invalids benefits.
The old adage "60 is the new 40" is simply bullshit!, although it could be true for the well heeled office workers, managers etc who`ve never soiled their hands or broken their backs. C`mon you greedy Nats, give our youth a chance!!. dont tread the ill fated path of the 1990s nasty Shipley / Bolger crowd.
